Cruciverbalist is a 14-letter Word for people who enjoy which hobby?

Anyone who creates crossword puzzles or takes pleasure in solving them is known as a cruciverbalist. The first crossword puzzle was created by a journalist from Liverpool named Arthur Wynne. On this date in 1913, it appeared in The New York World. His puzzle was initially referred to as a “Word-Cross” and had a diamond form. A typographical mistake caused the puzzle’s name to be altered from “Word-Cross” to “Cross-Word” a few weeks after the first “Word-Cross” publication. Despite the initial skepticism that Wynne’s creation received, by the 1920s it had become a well-liked activity that had both amused and frustrated generations of cruciverbalists.

    Cruciverbalist’s ancestry

The term “cruciverbalist” was created by joining the Latin word “crux,” which means “cross,” with the French postfix “ist(e),” which means “someone who is a member of an activity,” to create “crux+verbum+ist.”
A cruciverbalist created this word in 1975.

    Thoughts

Crossword puzzle enthusiast (14 letters) is the answer to the clue, even if the word is also used to describe the person who creates crossword puzzles as well as the person who solves them.

The 1970s seem to have been when it first appeared in English. The earliest reference I’ve located to Joseph La Fauci, a well-known local crossword puzzle developer, is as follows:

Another earlier example is The Compleat Cruciverbalist, a 1981 book by Stan Kurzban and Mel Rosen with the subtitle “How to solve, compose, and sell crossword puzzles for fun and profit.” Stan Kurzban informs me that Mel Rosen first encountered the term in the title of a small-circulation crossword puzzle notable’s directory, which could be where La Fauci discovered it.

Whatever its roots, cruciverbalist has become a more commonly used word as a result of their efforts, and it is now included in some more current US dictionaries and is widely known.

She was a graduate of Oxford University, an avid crusader and a beginner saxophonist, and she was one of the first women to be consecrated as priests in 1994.

“He not only speaks many other languages, but he can also quickly recall 50 or so words to fill in any given blank. For a full-time designer, or “cruciverbalist,” that is required. The Horlogan (Arlington Heights, Illinois),”

By translating the English crossword into Latin using the Latin roots cruces, cross, as in the word cruciform, and verbum, word, as in verbose or verbatim, the word was created in the present mock-Latin style.

Cruciverbalism is another term for the practice of crossword compilation or crossword fandom in general, but it is considerably less common.
