Who invented walking?
Who invented walking? This is a question with many different possible answers, but one thing is for sure: it was a huge breakthrough in human evolution. For the first time, our ancestors were able to move on their own two feet, freeing themselves from the necessity of climbing trees and hunting prey in order to survive. It’s no wonder that scientists believe that walking was an important step toward becoming truly civilized.
Well certainly walking is an interesting and multifaceted subject. For starters, we can thank the ancient Greeks for developing the first known method of locomotion, in which people would walk on their hind legs while holding a staff or a cane in their hands. This is believed to have originated from a combination of two factors: the need to balance and propel oneself, as well as the need to navigate uneven terrain.
However, it was the Egyptians who are credited with developing the first true method of walking, incorporating a forward & backward movement into the hips and knees. This enabled them to move more naturally and efficiently through various terrains. The Egyptians also developed a variety of tools & equipment for walking, including sandals and shoes.
Lastly, we can thank early humans for innovating various methods of walking, from barefoot running to high-tech shoes & cleats. Each new technique offers advantages and disadvantages depending on the individual’s needs & preferences. So no matter what type of walking style you prefer, chances are there’s an efficient method out there to help you get around!
